Natalie Jabangwe defines financial wellness from a perspective of achieving balance. Here, financial wellness is about achieving balance, that is, building up diverse income streams and learning to manage and grow our finances. Our combined goal must be centred around accelerating women's financial inclusion. This requires a bold and sustained culture shift around how we view finances- moving towards generating more income and investing it.
Financial wellness also looks outwardly. One of Natalie's life lessons is this- ''learn to give back even if its a small amount''. This makes for a more balanced and sustainable future-focused approach to financial wellness for the individual, the family unit and wider society.
Financial Wellness is very important to everyone, and it is especially important for women. This is because 85% of the women are said to manage the day-to-day expenses, however, only 23% take the lead on long-term financial planning (UBS, 2019). These long-term components are the crucial areas that make sure we're prepared for retirement, prepare for emergencies and are fully utilising your money.
In order to achieve financial wellness, we need to become financially literate. In Zimbabwe, 41% of the population is financially literate and on that percentage, only 36% of women are financially literate. It is because of this that we have this financial wellness information!
