Most girls and women will agree with me when I say being on your period at work or school can feel like a war zone filled with grenades ready to go off at any time. You never know if you are going to spoil your clothes or when the next menstrual explosion will occur. This can make anyone feel like they are on the edge all the time and make you lose your confidence during your cycle. Not to worry below is a guide on all the material you will need to survive and thrive during your period.
Stay fresh!
When you are on your period you bleed and once the blood gets into contact with air it begins to smell. Be sure to bath or shower at least once a day. If you are on the go, wiping using a tissue will not cut it, ladies- you need to stay fresh. You can make use of unscented wipes. Wipes are easy to carry around, disposable and convenient. There is no need for fancy high-end wipes, baby wipes will do just fine.
Manage the Pain
If you suffer from menstrual cramps, then you definitely need to carry painkillers such as tylenol or ibuprofen with you when you go to work or school. These can help once the pain becomes unbearable. Find out from your doctor about the best painkillers for your effective pain management.
Hot water bottle/ Warm compress
A hot water bottle/ warm compress can come in handy just to ease those nasty menstrual cramps. Hot water bottles are known to help relax the uterus and improving blood flow to the uterus. Use hot but not boiling water. Be careful not to burn yourself, avoid direct skin contact, - you are already experiencing enough pain as it is so don’t add burns to the list.
Food…yum yum!
This one is dedicated to all my food lovers out there! The jury is still out on this one but if you are anything like me then you will love this one. Most women often crave foods when they are on their period. Comfort food will make you feel better. Just be mindful to stay away from the processed sugars and fats and substitute with dark chocolate, popcorn and dried fruit.
Comfy underwear
Lastly, you need comfy underwear. Drastic times calls for drastic measures. It’s time to pull out all those DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT granny panties that are so comfortable and pack away that lacy underwear. Cotton is always best to maintain comfort and also reduce the chances of leakage.
We can sometimes dread our period to the extent that we count down the days to our next period because periods are not always sunshine and rainbows. Allow your self to cope the best way you know how and make use of the survival kit above to provide you with the comfort you deserve.
